Hi, I’m Ali and I work with adults for individual psychotherapy. With warmth and sustained curiosity I aim to minimize self judgment in order to make space for exploration with the goal of increasing your sense of safety, connection and contentment while decreasing suffering.
I am EMDR trained and my clinical interests include childhood trauma, attachment issues, depression, anxiety and relationship struggles. This includes adults raised by emotionally immature parents/caregivers and adults struggling with family estrangement and ongoing relationship conflict. (Learn more about EMDR here.) I work with people from all cultures, and I have a particular interest in working with folks who live at the intersection of racial and cultural identities.
I believe our early relationships and experiences are the foundation on which we create our lives. These experiences continue to impact us throughout different life stages and sometimes it’s necessary to explore this foundation in order to address the root causes of our present suffering. I also believe that our internal world and our wellness connect deeply to culture and society. Exploring the impact of these connections are important aspects of healing and growth.
I am a social worker with 10 years of experience in the mental health field. I started my career working with survivors of family violence and then worked in community mental health and psychiatry. After a decade of working, I transitioned away from social work to pursue additional education and other interests. In 2016, I focused on racial justice work within education before returning to clinical work.
I look forward to meeting you!
